The original Yatterman became a huge hit among kids and is legendary as a science-fiction comedy anime. Certain phrases from the show even came into everyday use, including "Buta mo odaterya ki ni noboru" ("Even a pig can climb a tree if you encourage it enough") and "O-shioki da bey" ("You’re in for it now!").

In January 2008 the remade Yatterman began airing, bringing the series back to television for the first time in 30 years. The premise and characters were kept the same, but episodes with more modern themes were added. This is one anime that certainly has long-lasting appeal.
