Green tea
Uji in the Kyoto suburbs is known for the excellent green tea grown there. Sen-cha (right) has a delicate flavor and produces a cooling effect. Kyo ban-cha (roasted tea leaves and stems processed according to a Kyoto recipe; far right) is simmered to bring out its smoky aroma. (Price for sen-cha: 840 yen for 200 grams)
