Tokyo Disneyland 20 Years Young
Written by Sakagami Kyoko

Tokyo DisneySea, a marine theme park, opened beside Tokyo Disneyland in 2001. Before that, Tokyo Disneyland welcomed about 16 million visitors per year, and now the two parks get more than 20 million. More than 300 million people have passed through the gates since the resort first opened, and attendance this year, its 20th anniversary, shows no sign of dropping. Meanwhile, other theme parks in Japan are left to compete with each other for visitors.
Tokyo Disneyland is a carbon-copy of the American theme park, complete with the same Walt Disney ideals, attractions and services. The Japanese fell in love with it, just as it was. But attractions have evolved over time interestingly, the parades that started at the Japanese site were, with the blessing of Walt Disney World Headquarters in the United States, were "exported" to Disneyland Resort Paris in France a few years ago.
Having captivating millions of Japanese over the past two decades, Tokyo Disneyland continues to spin a web of fun and innovation. The ranks of those who never seem to get enough of the fun include not only the Japanese, but visitors from other countries as well.

Physical and Mental Relaxation in Just 10 Minutes
Written by Sakagami Kyoko, Photo by Kato Yoshiaki
![](../../../common/images/spacer.gif) For one reason or another, the Japanese are under a lot of stress these days, and "quick massage" clinics provide an easy way to relieve it. A complete massage would take almost an hour, but the clinics give a short version in units of 10 minutes. The reasonable rates and flexible duration have made quick massages a hit.
The company that pioneered the service is called Temomin. It opened its first outlet in 1996, and now has about 100 all over Japan, with many in and around Tokyo. It even has branches in Los Angeles, USA, and Brisbane, Australia. The chain is operated by Global Sports Medical Laboratory, Inc., which also specializes in sports massage for Olympic athletes. Its massage techniques for athletes are used in quick massage, too, and are now much in demand among company employees and popular among women. A growing number of other corporations are opening their own clinics, imitating Temomin's methods and concept.
Temomin charges 1,000 yen for a 10-minute massage. Quick and cheap, the massages relieve stress and soothe the muscles. But one has to ask, why are the Japanese so stressed out that they need to be pampered like this? ![](../../../common/images/mark_ni.gif)

Quick massage clinics offer therapeutic relaxation. Company employees come during their break time, after work, or whenever they feel like it.
