Scenic crossing over ocean splendor

Ikema O-hashi Bridge (length: 1,425 meters) has linked the islands of Miyako and Ikema since 1992. The water under it is very clear, and the surface is sometimes a beautiful emerald green.

Island hopping in an oxcart (above left)

When the tide is out you can ride in an oxcart between Iriomote and Yufu islands. The crossing is a little like being swayed in a cradle. The entire island of Yufu is a subtropical botanical garden.

White sand beach on Hateruma Island (above right)

Hateruma has a population of less than 600, and is Okinawa’s southernmost inhabited island. It is famous for the beauty of its white beaches, such as Nishihama Beach, shown here.

A paradise of coral sand tropical fish

About 90% of Japan’s corals are in waters off Okinawa. The marine creatures and the sea floor, punctuated with coral reefs off the Kerama Islands in particular, attract many divers throughout the year.
