![]() (Toshiba Ceramics) The main constituent of natural bone is hydroxyapatite, and this material can be made artificially and processed into a porous bone replacement called "Neobone." The human body easily adapts to the replacement, and after a while tissue forms in and around it.

![]() Tiles with a ceramic material, titanium oxide, painted on. When light shines on the tiles they produce a photocatalyst effect that sterilizes and deodorizes. Dirt is easily washed off because the material promotes solubility in water. The tiles are now being used for the floors and walls of operating rooms, and as a "brick" building facade.
