More tuna are offloaded at Katsuura than at almost any other fishing port in Japan.The early morning markets are crowded with buyers.

(20) Taiji is known as the place where whaling began in Japan. Inside, a replica of a right whale hangs from the ceiling of the Taiji Whale Museum. The whale is 15 meters long (actual size). The museum has a large exhibit relating to whaling.
