Bronze statues of main characters from the Gegege no Kitaro series, including Kitaro himself, Medama Oyaji (Kitaro's father), and Nezumi Otoko (Kitaro's friend, whose name means 'Rat Man'), as well as various Yokai, are installed throughout the town.
Upon leaving Sakaiminato Station, visitors wander down Mizuki Shigeru Road, which extends approximately 800 meters through an adjacent shopping district. They are greeted along the way by 139 bronze statues of Yokai, including characters from the Gegege no Kitaro series, lining the street. After stopping to pay their respects at Yokai Shrine, the visitors eventually arrive at the Mizuki Shigeru Museum, the centerpiece of Sakaiminato's tourist attractions. Here, they find all manner of materials related to Yokai on display, including Yokai diorama, Shigeru Mizuki's Yokai collection from countries around the world, and various of his favorite items and photo panels. They also receive a thorough introduction to the artist's personality and the fascinating appeal of his works.

Yokai Shrine
Yokai Shrine was constructed on Mizuki Shigeru Road as a home for Yokai, and as a "village of Yokai" to protect and nurture a Yokai-friendly natural environment.
