One of the most popular sections of the museum is ‘Robot World’ in the Innovation and the Future exhibition area. Among the residents there is the supremely advanced humanoid robot ASIMO, which is a huge favorite especially with children. ASIMO was developed to play an active role in the lives of real people, and is able to move very freely. It can also understand the meanings that people express with gestures or with their postures – and take appropriate action in response.
Another popular robot is Paro, which reacts delightfully when spoken to or touched. Designed to possess ‘therapeutic powers,’ Paro is listed in the Guinness World Records as the world’s most successful robot in providing healing effects. ASIMO and Paro are representative of Japan’s robotics technologies, which are setting the standard for the whole world.
