Japanese Video Games: They're a Fast-Evolving Art Form!

part2

Dragon Quest is one of the most popular video game series ever created in Japan

It has been a blockbuster success year after year for more than two decades. Every single entry in the series (there have been a total of nine so far, the first released in 1986 and the latest in 2009), has sold over a million copies, and some have sold over 6 million! All told, more than 50 million copies of Dragon Quest games, including spin-offs, have been snapped up over the years by enthusiastic and often fanatic fans, and the pace shows no signs of slowing. Dragon Quest is such a phenomenon that it has even found its way into the Guinness World Records. It holds no fewer than six Guinness titles: from “Fastest Selling Video Game in Japan,” to “First Video Game Series to Inspire a Ballet.”

Dragon Quest, which has shipped over 50 million copies worldwide, is a role-playing game (RPG) series in which players advance through a game landscape set in a medieval European-style fantasy world. The player becomes a central character (hero or heroine), battling waves of powerful monsters in an action adventure.
