A tengu is a Japanese goblin. According to legend, tengu live deep in the mountains. They are red-faced, with very long noses, glittering eyes, long claws, and beaks like birds. Sometimes they take the form of yamabushi (wandering Buddhist monks) with wings attached to their backs and carrying feather fans. Tengu are believed to commune with the spirit world. Tengu have an interesting mix of personality traits: They can be very emotional and prideful, but at the same time they are extremely fussy and have no tolerance for the mistakes that people make.
