(Matsuyama Castle General Office)
Matsuyama Castle is one of few castles with a surviving donjon that was built prior to the Edo period.
Matsuyama is the largest city in Shikoku. The city has flourished as a castle town centered on Matsuyama Castle, which was built about 400 years ago. Tourist spots include Dogo Onsen, one of the three oldest hot springs in Japan, and locations linked to poets famous for writing haiku, one of Japan's traditional cultures. In recent years, cultural facilities have been set up in urban areas to ensure that this culture is passed down to future generations.
