For the past few years, Gel Nails have been fashionable among adults. The technique builds up layers of special hardening resin on the nail which set under a lamp. Characteristically Gel Nails can produce cute free-hand designs with a see-through effect and the end-product lasts a long time. In Japan we like delicate handiwork and a cute look, and there is a growing trend for 3D nail art, where colorful stones are studded in the gel and pictures are created in three dimensions.
Girls of primary and junior school age see such nail art all around them and inevitably they become interested in beautiful nails like those of their mother or older sister. But they can't go to the nail salon with just their pocket money. And even if they paint their own nails, they won't be able to go to school with them. So nail stickers were devised - they stick on neatly and are easy to remove.
