Another cat from a famous manga appeared in a movie released in fall 2008 in Japan, titled Gou-Gou Datte Neko de Aru. The main character is Asako, a manga artist. Asako is so saddened by the death of Saba, a cat she had lived with for 13 years, that she finds it hard to continue drawing manga. Just at that time, though, she comes across an American shorthair cat called Gou-Gou, and her heart slowly but surely opens up. They sleep, eat, and go on walks together. As the two of them go about their lives, Asako starts to make progress again in her work as a manga artist. Just as their happy times begin, Asako is hit with unexpected news.

The movie shows Asako and Gou-Gou enjoying a carefree life, and watching these scenes warms the hearts of moviegoers. The story has both fun and sad moments, but the presence of the cat ensures that Asako keeps on doing her best, no matter what happens. The movie shows that those with a kind heart understand that cats are people's friends.
