Everyone hates Onuki because he's so grumpy. "You infuriate me just because you know me," he barks in the film. "And don't toss my name around as if we're friends. I don't even want to exist in your mind!"

One day, a young girl named Paco enters the hospital. She was injured in a traffic accident and can't remember anything for more than a day; she doesn't yet know that her parents died in the accident. So every day she sits on a bench reading the same picture book about a frog prince and crayfish wizard that she thinks is a birthday gift from her mother.

Onuki knows nothing about Paco's condition and falsely accuses her of stealing his golden cigarette lighter; he punches her and makes her cry. Even headstrong Onuki regrets this when he learns about Paco's situation, though, and apologizes. This produces a miracle. She remembers Onuki the next day as the one who hit her.
