Sendai

Sendai is the largest city in the Tohoku region. Although Sendai has the largest population in the Tohoku region, it is blessed with green space – to the extent that it is called “Mori no Miyako (City of Trees).” Since ancient times, many places in the city have been mentioned in Haiku and Tanka poems. Sendai was severely damaged by the tsunami resulting from the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, but it is slowly regaining the vigor that it exhibited before the earthquake.
