Antique fair at Tomioka Hachimangu
On weekends, antique fairs are held in several outdoor locations in Tokyo, often on the grounds of shrines. Particularly popular among foreign visitors is the market held at Togo Shrine in Harajuku on the first, fourth, and fifth Sundays of the month. Foreigners make up nearly half the crowd at this market, where old kimonos, pottery, chests of drawers, and other unique items are laid out over the grounds in a sprawling expanse that can take two or three hours to cover. Bargaining for a find is part of the fun.

Smaller but still worth visiting are the antique fair at Hanazono Shrine in Shinjuku, held every Sunday with about 100 vendors, and the one held at Tomioka Hachimangu in Fukagawa on the first and second Sundays of each month.

Whereas antique fairs are mostly held at shrines, flea markets typically take place at parks. These are good places to pick up used clothing at low prices. Komazawa Park has particularly large flea markets, which are held one or two Sundays each month.
