| The New
National Theater, Tokyo, which opened in 1997, hosts operas, ballets, and
theatrical productions throughout the year on its three stages. This theater and
the adjacent Tokyo
Opera City Concert Hall together form an entertainment complex that is on
a par with New York City's Lincoln Center. The theater offers about 15 operas
during its opera season, which runs from September through June, and a total of
10 ballets and plays each year.
Tokyo also has many other concert halls where world-class orchestras perform,
as well as theaters that host plays and musicals.
