Many famous restaurants from all over the world offer the best of Parisian, Florentine, Cantonese, and other cuisines at their locations in Tokyo. Several Asian cultures have an outpost in some Tokyo neighborhood, and restaurants offering Indian, Korean, Vietnamese, and other Asian foods abound. Recently the smorgasbord of foreign cuisines in Tokyo has expanded to include Ethiopian, Tunisian, and Turkish food.

Tokyo also has many restaurants that specialize in yoshoku, or Western-style food. The long-standing establishments in this category serve up Japanese adaptations of Western cuisine, which started developing back in the Meiji period - when many elements of Western culture were flowing into Japan - and have flowered into a full-fledged genre. Examples of this Japanized Western cuisine include kare raisu (curry and rice) and the breaded and deep-fried cutlets of pork or chicken commonly referred to as katsuretsu.

Casual diners can choose from an amazing profusion of eating places that entice customers with one-of-a-kind menus and services, from innovative culinary combinations of Japanese and Western elements to themed entertainment.
