| The Harumi district on Tokyo Bay used to be a bleak place lined
with warehouses. But in spring 2001 the skyline was transformed by the opening
of Harumi Island Triton Square under the slogan "Work, Play, Live."
This complex, a small city in its own right, accommodates 20,000 workers and 5,000
residents, as well as about 60 shops and restaurants, a concert hall, and other
cultural facilities. Conveniently located just a short journey from bustling Ginza,
it has become a popular spot.
Other redevelopment projects are also making their mark on the Bay Area, including
Shinagawa Seaside Forest, which consists of condominiums, a shopping mall, and
a cluster of high-rise office buildings, and a large-scale residential complex
in the Shinonome district. Each of these projects is helping to restore the population
of central Tokyo.
