Kino's Journey: The Beautiful World - Country of Illness - For You (opened in April 2007) ((C)KEIICHI SIGSAWA·MEDIAWORKS/KINO'S JOURNEY THE MOVIE COMMITTEE)
"Kino, why do you keep on traveling?"
"Because the world and the way the different people live are so beautiful . . . I want to know more about all these wonderful things. I think that's why I'm on this journey."
This is part of a dialogue between Kino, a girl on a continuous journey, and her talking motorcycle, Hermes. The two of them visit many countries where everything is different, from the scenery to how society works. They meet many people along the way, learning about the difficulty, sadness, and joy that life holds. This mysterious story was originally told in Kino's Journey: The Beautiful World, a series of light novels. It has since been made into a TV anime series, a video game, and now a movie.
In the movie, Kino and Hermes travel to a highly developed science-based civilization. The people there live in the stable environment of a man-made city protected by a giant dome, and their everyday lives appear incredibly peaceful, at least on the surface. However, this society has an elite of people who are the only ones allowed outside the dome to see the real sun and touch the real earth. After meeting a young girl inside the dome, Kino realizes the terrible secret this place holds.
Kino's Journey is loved by many young people, perhaps because the uncertainties and doubts voiced in this fantasy series resonate with people living in modern society.
